The Empower Project is on a mission to transform how we educate our young men via a year long project-based alternative to traditional schooling that features (11) 3-week deep dives into cool stuff that really matters.
12-14 year-old boys (incoming 7/8th grade) form a small Cohort that is guided by Mentors through a series of projects covering diverse and relevant topics. In this relationship and via this setting the boys are empowered to grow into kind, collaborative, resourceful, and resilient young men.
The Empower Project has a service and community-based mindset with all our projects aiming to benefit more people and contribute to a healthy planet. The boys will 'actively' learn core competencies including:
+ Executive Function & Organizational Skills
+ Teamwork & Project Management
+ Applied Academics & Arts
+ Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL)
+ Fitness Training
Traditional schooling focuses on a select few learning styles and gives little to no agency to the student. It's no wonder that kids are apathetic about the lessons, despise their homework, and unhealthily stress over tests and grades. Additionally, key factors to a child's well-being and future success are being neglected as we fail to engage their imagination and deepen their understanding of self and others.
We believe in a kid’s goodness and inherent wisdom, and along with our service partners will act as expert guides helping to position them for success on a journey of self-discovery, friendship, service, knowledge and power that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
The Empower Project is based in the Town of Fairfax, north of San Francisco right in the heart of Marin County. It is a pleasure to serve this and the surrounding communities and be given such an amazing opportunity to empower these kids as they become young adults.
It is our dream to see our reach grow as we provide excellent service to the community and meaningful employment for those advocating for our youth.
We are built on a foundation of Knowledge, Empathy and Power...
+ Knowledge is the basis of an accurate inquiry and must be acquired through experience and study.
+ Empathy is an emotional connection to self and others that is best cultivated through mindfulness.
+ Power is found in the capacity to get it done including collaborative know-how and self-driving determination.
